Merry Christmas!

I am so blessed. I got to spend the entire day opening presents with my family and my guinea pig and then got to end the night with my incredible boyfriend, Josh. (He spoiled me to no end - I am so grateful.) My favorite present came from him actually. It was a simple penguin-shaped stone with the phrase "you + me" with a red heart. Now, he knows that penguins are my favorite animal, but there's a backstory to this. Penguins, when they're in love, will search the entire beach for the perfect pebble to give to the one they care for most. For Josh- the penguin-shaped stone was the pebble, and I love it. As I said, I am extremely blessed.

Other gifts of today included an Olli Maatta Finland jersey from the World Cup of Hockey, a signed Maatta puck, penguin tickets, the Amazon Alexa, and other miscellaneous clothes and small gifts.

I want to keep this post brief so whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope it has or will treat you well and that 2017 is good to you.

Merry Christmas to all - and to all,

Have a fantastic night.

It's been a month. I'm already bad at keeping this thing up. Oops.

This past month has been so good to me. The election show was nothing shy of a success, although the results of the election weren't necessarily good, but any results from the election at all were going to be upsetting, to be honest.

I have done so much. Over Thanksgiving break, I got my first color commentary experience of my college career alongside the seasoned professional, Josh Croup. It was a double header against Penn State Fayette. Both the women's and men's teams won, although Josh and I were late due to extensive traffic the ENTIRE way. (Josh does NOT do well in stressful situations, and also does not like being late to anything, ever. That car ride was frightening.) I have since done a women's game against Wilberforce (Carly Forse scored her 1,000th point that game), exactly a week after the double header, and just yesterday I did color commentary for the men's loss to Washington Adventist, who is nationally ranked. Washington Adventist had this one guy on their team, Brian Bridgeforth, and he is 6'10". Point Park doesn't have a player that tops 6'5", so you can imagine how that went. It was an exciting and surprisingly close game nonetheless (102-92) and I can't wait to continue broadcasting games this season.

I am officially done with classes as of next Wednesday. My first semester of college is nearly over and time has flown by too quickly. PPU has been entirely too good to me since my arrival. The last episode of Sideline is on Thursday after Daybreak and EOP are done, this episode just a farewell to the seniors that have put so much into the show throughout their years here. Next semester will be very different, considering a lot of the people that go on a regular basis now will be leaving for much bigger and better things.

Honestly, I'm dreading break. I don't want to have to leave all of my friends from school, or my school in general. I already know that being home for 3 weeks is going to be too long. I'm ready for next semester, and I can't wait to see what it has in store for me. Until next time though,

Have a fantastic night.

This week will be hectic and relaxing at the same time. On the bright side, 2 of my classes this week have been canceled, but tomorrow morning I get to vote for the first time ever and I should be excited, right? What an awful first election to vote in. Hillary Clinton, who would be the first female president, or Donald Trump, who has no political background in the slightest. How does one pick between these? Not to mention that if I share my political beliefs on campus, chances are I'd get metaphorically crucified, and literally shunned, at my school. Politics is the one topic I can't stand talking about in the slightest, and yet here I am talking about it. Tomorrow beginning at 5:30 pm, PPU is having an entirely student-run live election night show up until the results are announced very late at night, so it'll be a very long day to say the least, and I'm just crew for the show. I couldn't even imagine being one of the producers.

Speaking of producers, my best friend on campus is Josh Croup, and he is basically the executive producer of the election show, bless his soul. He is so involved in everything communications related on campus, so I deemed him the 'King of Comm.' Every day he has at least 10,000 things to accomplish, so I learned quickly that I shouldn't complain, and rightfully so. He went to the same high school as I did too, so he's been key in helping me get involved and known more around campus. He'll be mentioned in a lot of my posts on here I'm sure.

Today was super relaxing though, but I've felt super tired for the entirety of it. I woke up early and went to class, turned in a paper, went to the library for my second (and last) class of the day, but we got out an hour early, which means my day ended at 11:50 am. The remainder was spent watching Grey's Anatomy and coloring in Jess & Alyssa's room, two soccer players that live on my floor that Meghan and I have become pretty good friends with. (I'm writing this from their dorm room floor actually.)

I guess today's post was just to get some things off of my mind, but this is really refreshing. I love this. Until next time, though...

Have a fantastic night.

I have been debating on whether or not to start a blog for a very long time now. I always told myself, "Next year is the year, you'll have more time and your life will be more interesting." Now that I am almost done with my first semester of college, I figured what better time?

I have always loved writing for fun, even if sometimes I have to remind myself of how much I actually enjoy it. I am such a procrastinator; I haven't met a project yet that I haven't been able to complete the night before it was due. Most of the time, I think of papers that are due as a nuisance, just another thing on an extensive list of to-do's, then when I actually start writing it and getting more into it, I remember how much I love putting my thoughts down onto a piece of paper.

I should probably give myself a bit of an introduction since this is the first blog I've ever written. My name is Allison Schubert. I currently attend Point Park University, majoring in Broadcast Reporting, and hopefully will be double majoring in that and Public Relations by the end of the year. There are very few things in this world that I love dearly, but my top 3 would have to be dogs, tea, and the city of Pittsburgh. Hockey is also very far up there on my list, and ultimately I would love to have a job with an NHL team someday, but for now, that's the dream.

I've learned very quickly in college how important it is to be independent. I'm in a midsize city without my family on the daily, which I absolutely love. This city is the place that I call home, and without that sense of independence, you wouldn't be able to fully enjoy yourself. To be successful in life, you can't constantly rely on your family for everything, and being here has definitely prepared me for that. I'm barely home anymore, and go home only when I find it absolutely necessary. My roommate, Meghan, on the other hand goes home every weekend, although I'm not saying that is a bad thing. She goes home to work and see her family, and she always talks about how much she misses all of her mom's homemade meals. I think that is another reason the move for me was so much easier than that of others here. My roommate and others on my floor are constantly talking about how homesick they are. Granted, I only live 50-ish minutes away, but Meghan only lives 20 minutes away and still misses home on the daily, and I can't say I relate. My relationship with my mom has always been strained, and my sister and I don't see eye-to-eye on anything, ever. My dad is my best friend and he visits often, making it a lot easier on me. But overall, home is a place I wouldn't miss if I never went back again.

I don't know how this whole "blogging" thing is going to work out. It will probably be a home to all of my late-night thoughts and random weird ideas, or simply a weekly-monthly tab on how things are going for me and my journey. Until next time, though...

Have a fantastic night.
